Creme Brulee French Toast – you assemble this dish the night before and bake in the morning.

  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoon corn syrup
  • 2 baguettes or 1 loaf French Bread
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups half & half
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon Grand Marnier
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

In a small heavy saucepan, melt butter with brown sugar and corn syrup over moderate heat, stirring until smooth and pour into a greased 9 X 13 inch baking dish.

Cut 10 to 12 slices (1 inch thick) slices, reserving ends for another use. Arrange bread slices in one layer in baking dish over the melted syrup. Squeeze them slightly to fit. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, half & half, vanilla Grand Marnier and salt until well combined and ladle evenly over bread. Chill bread mixture, covered, overnight.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bring bread to room temperature. Bake bread mixture, uncovered, in middle of oven until puffed and edges are pale golden, 35 to 40 minutes. The custard should be set. Serves 6.

Adventure in the Ozarks

For Cheri’s birthday in June we went ziplining! The Ozark Mountain Zipline opened here a couple of years ago. We’ve had great feedback from our guests, just no time to try it. We walked around the corner to their office, got fitted with our gear, boarded the bus and had a short ride to our destination. Our group was ages 7 to 70 with two very entertaining guides. The first two ziplines are short so you can get your nerve up. Then you’re off to the races. There are 10 lines woven through the Ozark forest as high as 250 feet and up to 1800 feet long. This is Rick coming in for a landing! We had a really great time and if you’re up for a little adventure we bet you will too.

Evening Entertainment

When you visit this year you may be surprised by how many new shows we have in town. There is definitely something for everyone. If you are interested in magic, cabaret, country or variety we have loads of entertainment for you in the evenings. Don’t forget the Great Passion Play is also open for the season and Opera in the Ozarks begins its 65th season June 19!

Intrigue-Header-Gold-Foil-3 Just up the street from us, held in a beautiful old stone church is Intrigue Theater.  They just spent all winter in the Caribbean as part of the entertainment on a cruise ship, and now they’re back in Eureka Springs for their 3rd season. A very entertaining show of Illusion, magic and mind reading!

George Brothers @ Pine Mountain JamboreeThe George Brothers are performing at the Pine Mountain Jamboree this season. They used to headline the Ozark Mountain Hoedown with great success, so successful they eventually went on tour. They’re back this year with P.Nut and Ponytail and are putting on a great show!

Steve Kinworthy and his talented cast of singers and dancers perform exciting live stage production numbers. We’re a Certified Wildlife Habitat!

NWF Certifies New Wildlife Habitat in Eureka Springs

Local business making a difference to protect wildlife

national wildlife federation

Eureka Springs, Arkansas –April 9, 2015. The National Wildlife Federation® (NWF) is pleased to recognize that the Heartstone Inn Bed and Breakfast in Eureka Springs has successfully created an official Certified Wildlife Habitat™ site. NWF celebrates the efforts of  Rick and Cheri Rojek to create a garden space that improves habitat for birds, butterflies, frogs and other wildlife by providing essential elements needed by all wildlife – natural food sources, clean water, cover and places to raise young.

“Providing a home for wildlife in our communities – whether it’s at home, or in schools businesses or parks – is the demonstration of a healthy and active eco-system. There is no more rewarding way to stay connected to nature right outside your door,” said David Mizejewski, naturalist with the National Wildlife Federation.

“We enjoy watching the birds, squirrels and wildlife visit our backyard, and wanted to do our part to help. We have redesigned our yard to make it more inviting to wildlife and provide habitat elements necessary for wildlife to thrive.” said Cheri Rojek.

NWF’s Certified Wildlife Habitat program has been helping people take personal action on behalf of wildlife for more than 40 years. The program engages homeowners, businesses, schools, churches, parks and other institutions that want to make their communities wildlife friendly.

This new certified habitat joins NWF’s roll of more than 150,000 certified habitats nationwide. Wildlife habitats are important to year-round wildlife residents as well as species that migrate, such as some birds and butterflies. Each habitat is unique for both beauty and function.

People who create a Certified Wildlife Habitat receive a one-year subscription to the award-winning National Wildlife magazine, a personalized certificate and quarterly e-newsletters with tips for improving their habitat for wildlife. They also are eligible to purchase NWF’s special outdoor sign designating their yard or garden as wildlife-friendly.

For more information on gardening for wildlife and details on how an entire community can become certified, visit www.nwf.org/habitat or call 1-800-822-9919. The mission of the National Wildlife Federation is to inspire Americans to protect wildlife for our children’s future.
